My Dharma

Creating new Paths and paradigms for healing

The miracles of modern medicine have given rise to a slew of powerful prescriptions and procedures, but the system has lost sight of how humans truly heal. I serve those who seek to go beyond the bounds of conventional medical treatments with the expert guidance of a professional trained in both western medicine and other systems of healing. My approach draws upon integrative, functional medicine, primary care, extensive work in trauma and complex mental health, and guided psychedelic medicine practices to address each individual's unique afflictions, experiences, and community context, so we can work together to uncover the root causes of suffering that is impacting your mind, body, and spirit.

My Expertise

I am a board-certified Integrative Family Medicine physician and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine. I’ve spent the past 25 years working on the frontlines of the most marginalized communities, as well as globally with victims of school shootings, survivors of hurricanes, citizens impacted by police violence, and psychologists in Ukraine under attack. I delivered babies for two decades, including for the most high risk women in Washington State who no other obstetric groups would care for because of their recovering or active addiction. I have tended to an extremely complex mental health population for this time and actively treated and managed addiction, both in the outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation settings.

From the hospital to the exam room, I’ve tended to children, the dying, and all in between. In my faculty work at the Center for Mind Body Medicine in Washington, DC, I have cultivated expertise in facilitating small groups for the last 15 years, working with trauma of all kinds, from manmade and natural disasters to the brutal effects of the harm humans and systems wield on each other. I have created entire programs in Integrative medicine including the first fellowship in Washington state. I do everything to the highest level I can because that's the integrity I have around my work and service. My expertise is recognized in my local work and awards, national presentations to both medical and non-medical organizations, and my multiple articles and textbook chapters in Integrative medicine. I am always on the cutting edge of medicine including current clinical research on psilocybin, the first psychedelic research of its kind at the University of Washington.

My book, Joy Is My Justice, is a culmination of my personal and professional work to challenge the current conversation on mental health and wellness that implies you are broken instead of the systems that you live and work in. Joy is accessible to all of us. It is a human right. And it is my mission to guide you towards it.

My why

As a Sikh, Desi woman raised in the American South, I have deeply felt the pain of separation, fear, and racism and what it means to not feel safe. It is why I am dedicated to guiding patients to find healing paradigms for ease in their bodies, to healing and shifting human consciousness through integrative patient treatment, guided psychedelic medicine, and group work. My seva, or service, to the community is also a form of service to my own healing. By working with patients and practitioners in this sacred approach, I am at the forefront of a much-needed shift in medicine, one where care for the individual and community comes first, and healing happens in a way that fosters belonging in and service to the larger world.

Trauma lives in the body, but that’s also where it heals.”
